Today we welcome Dan Johnson, President of the Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association into the virtual hangar for a short chat about the upcoming U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, FL. The annual event has become the gathering place for all things LSA and Sport Pilot. During the 4-day expo, attendees can view static displays, see flying demonstrations, get demo flights, and attend various forums.

We get general information about the event, who are some of the notable attendees, and what guests can expect over the course of the weekend. We are very thankful that Dan was able to work us into his understandably busy schedule. Unfortunately, Will was not able join Dan and David in the virtual hangar.

You can find out more about the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, FL at http://www.sport-aviation-expo.com. The Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association's website is at http://www.lama.bz. And finally, please head over to http://www.bydanjohnson.com for latest information regarding sport aviation, pilot reports, reviews, and more.

This week we welcome Monika Petrillo into the virtual hangar. Monika is a private pilot living in Los Angelas, CA. After getting her private pilot's license, Monika ventured out on a trip to fly all the way around the continent of Australia. With her family in tow, including her father who had also just gotten his private ticket, Monika chronicled the entire adventure. Several years later, Monika released her self-produced documentary film Flyabout.

Monika talks about the motivation to get her private pilot's license, how her father reacted to the news, and how they decided to take on such a wild adventure together. Will and David introduce a new segment into the show that they call the Dream Hangar, where we talk about which three airplanes we would want in our Dream Hangar. Finally, we wrap up with some ATC: The Aviation Trivia Challenge.

As always, we'd like to thank Steve Tupper and Scott Cannizzaro for providing the music for this podcast. If you'd like to reach any of us, please feel free to follow us on Twitter or drop us an email. All of our contact info, including Monika's, is at the bottom of the show notes.

This week we welcome our friend Lyn Freeman into the virtual hangar. Lyn is the founder of BuildAPlane, an organization that helps to match unfinished or damaged airplanes with high schools and other youth organizations, thus providing kids an opportunity to work on a real airplane. Some of these airplanes will never fly again, but some actually do! How exciting is that?!

Lyn talks about how he started BuildAPlane, discusses how people can get involved, and gives a few examples of the many great stories related to BuildAPlane projects.

Please see the BuildAPlane website for information about how to start a project in your school or youth organization, donate an airplane, donate products or services, or support this amazing organization that has the great mission of getting kids deeply involved with aviation. Also, you can become a fan of BuildAPlane on Facebook by clicking here.

This is a special episode of PFPL. David is on-location at NASA's Kennedy Space Center Press Site for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis on STS-129 to the International Space Station.

This QuickCast was recorded the day after the launch of Atlantis and the STS-129 crew. One of the Tweetup participants, Chris Floyd, flew his own Mooney Ovation 3 from Northern California all the way to Florida. Chris is one of the guys who really "gets" general aviation, and he takes great pride in spreading his enthusiasm and excitement to others. This QuickCast is cockpit audio of the last few minutes of a flight David took with Chris in his gorgeous Mooney. And we do mean gorgeous.

Thanks Chris for taking me up! -David

This is a special episode of PFPL. David is on-location at NASA's Kennedy Space Center Press Site for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the launch of Space Shuttle Atlantis on STS-129 to the International Space Station.

This QuickCast was recorded only a couple of hours after the launch of Atlantis during the bus ride back to the KARS Park I parking area. With the shuttle launch - and the feelings it inspired - still fresh in everyone's mind, David asked everyone in the rear half of the bus for their first impressions of the launch. This episode is, simply, their answers.
